Jeff Ruppert and Ian Smith complete their structural analysis and specifications for the project, taking the approach of generalizing the form and making minimum dimension requirements for the sculptural beam. Slight adjustments throughout the entire work are required. Another 50 hours are invested by the artist to produce a third version of the model.

To ensure structural integrity of the sculpture, the initial approach involves redrawing the complex SketchUp model in SolidWorks for computer analysis. Aspects of the form present challenges that impede the SolidWorks translation. This approach is abandoned after several months, when Adam is whisked away as field engineer for James Balog’s Extreme Ice Survey project.

The City of Boulder developed a Public Art Policy and sent a draft of the document to the monument team. The Policy will require a new proposal to be submitted for the Cycling Monument Project to comply with the new formal process.
